Teach Us To Number Our Days!

Teach Us To Number Our Days!

I celebrated another birthday last week, and I wrote on a social media page that I was now "double nickels plus one cent!" (that's fifty-six just in case you needed to figure it out!) I got a HUGE chuckle when a dear friend from Scotland jokingly wrote,

"It took me a while, but I finally figured out that you are now 11!"

My friend's reply not only caused my to literally LOL (laugh out loud), but it also got me thinking!

Celebrating

another

birthday

got me

thinking

about some

VERY

CRITICAL

issues

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom."
Psalm 90:12

Time is flying by!

It's hard to believe that it's the end of January already!

Where

DOES

the time go?

Time as defined by the Webster’s Online Bible Dictionary,

“A particular portion or part of duration, whether past, present or future."

The example given after this definition was very sobering,

"Lost time is never found again.”

Some very interesting quotes I found about time:

“How did it get so late so soon? It's night before it's afternoon. December is here before it's June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?”
Dr. Seuss

"You may delay, but time will not.”
Benjamin Franklin

"When you kill time, remember that it has no resurrection."
A.W. Tozer

The Bibles uses the word "time" 787 different “times”!

“And the LORD appointed a set time, saying, To morrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land.”
Exodus 9:5

"For when we were yet without strengthin due time Christ died for the ungodly.”
Romans 5:6

“Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.”
Colossians 4:5

"Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”
Hebrews 9:28

"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
James 4:14

Time truly has a way of making me seriously think.

Seriously

think

about

what?

Am I using the TIME the Lord has given to me for His honor and glory and to be an encouragement to others?

Or am I wasting away the TIME which the Lord gives to me?

TIME

on

this earth

will

NOT

last

forever!

"My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle.”
Job 7:6

Personally, I know that I have more TIME and years behind me, than I do before me, unless I happen to live into my hundreds!

It's

VERY

sobering

to

KNOW

one day

we

ALL

will

stand

before

the Lord!

"So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God."
Romans 14:12

As believers, we are spared for giving an account for our sin because JESUS nailed our sin to the cross. PRAISE THE LORD!

But just as serious, we WILL give an account for what we did with our lives.

For what

we

"did"

with

JESUS

How can you and I make sure we are using our time wisely for the Lord?

I had written out a few of my own suggestions, but one day as I was drying my hair, the Lord laid something different upon my heart to share! He has a way of "speaking" to me quite often while I'm drying my hair, and I'm sure glad He does!

So instead of hearing my suggestions, I am sharing ten things which I recently heard as I was listening to a message preached by Pastor Cox of Space Coast Baptist Church right here in Florida!

  1. Practice what you preach!
  2. Live a genuine Christian life. Be REAL. Don't be a fake Christian. Others are watching to see how Christ is making a difference in your life!
  3. Speak the truth in LOVE!
  4. Be a friend to sinners just like Jesus was a friend to sinners!
  5. Stand your ground and be consistent!
  6. Love people. Be famous for your LOVE FOR OTHERS!
  7. Pray for revival. Pray EVERY day for revival!
  8. Ask the Lord for a tender heart towards spiritual things!
  9. Don't give up! Don't EVER give up!
  10. Whatever the Lord has called you to do, BE FAITHFUL!

“Only
one life,
’twill soon
be past,
Only
what’s
done for
Christ
will last.”
