Trust. That word, or I should say, the meaning of that word, has become all but obsolete in the world and society which we currently find ourselves.
It's heart breaking to see just how far we have digressed over the years from the true meaning of the word "trust".
Back in the day a handshake and a smile was enough to seal a deal.
A man was taken at his word.
Now-a-days we don't know who we can trust.
We've come to the point where we have doubts, questions and suspicions concerning most people who cross our path.
We are finding it more and more difficult to discern truth from deception.
We certainly can't put our trust in the political arena!
The news media has stooped to broadcasting fake news just to boost their ratings or to get the first scoop on a breaking news headline whether it's true or false!
Spouses hire private detectives to spy on each other so they can record their questionable "where abouts".
Some parents have difficulty trusting their children, and it's become extremely difficult for children to know who they can trust and believe.
Those sports figures we put on pedestals have betrayed us one too many times!
Even some preachers, sad to say, have broken our trust.
The definition of trust from The Webster's Online Bible Dictionary,
"Confidence; a reliance or resting of the mind on the integrity, veracity, justice or other sound principle of another person."
So in this mixed-up, messed-up, bewildered, confused, messy, deception-filled world, who can we trust?
Where
can we
place
our trust
in
2019?
In the economy?
In our job?
In our financial status?
In our political leaders?
In our friends?
In the stock market?
In our good health?
In our family members?
Everything and everyone I just mentioned above is subject to change in a blink of an eye.
BUT
there
is
ONE
Who
NEVER
EVER
changes!
One we can ALWAYS trust!
One Who says what He means and means what He says!
"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"
Numbers 23:19
If God could lie, He would have something in common with Satan, the father of lies, and that is downright inconceivable!
If God could lie, He would be just like us, and that, too, is TOTALLY impossible!
As I was preparing for this post several weeks ago, the Lord prompted me to begin looking up verses about trust. I didn't get too far when I was stopped dead in my tracks by the following verse,
"The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower."
Psalm 18:2
I know I've read this verse many times in the past, so what made it particularly special to me this time?
Because I STOPPED and REALLY read it and APPLIED it to myself!
And then I read it again!
And read it again for the third time!
I wrote it out in my journal.
And then read it aloud for the fourth time, this time REALLY emphasizing the word, "MY"!
This is one time when it's okay to be selfish!
When it's okay to have a "covetous spirit"!
Just think about it!
The Lord is saying,
He is MY rock
He is MY fortress
He is MY deliverer
He is MY God
He is MY strength
He is MY buckler
He is the horn of MY salvation
He is MY high tower
And if you know Jesus as your personal Saviour, He is saying the EXACT same things to you!
After ALL that the Lord has promised to be to me, there's just one tiny thing that I need to do according to this verse,
"in whom I will trust"
So will I choose to trust God throughout the days of 2019 truly believing that He is all He said He is in the above-mentioned verse plus so much more?
Will you choose to trust God throughout the days of 2019 truly believing that He is all He said He is in the above-mentioned verse plus so much more?
There's
only
two
choices!
Place my trust in man and circumstances which are apt to change on a daily basis!
Place my trust in THE faithful, unchangeable, absolutely, completely trustworthy Father Who loves me beyond anything I can even put into words!
The One Who gave His only Son to die for my sins!
I don't make New Year's resolutions, but I do set goals.
One of my goals for 2019 is to completely trust in the Lord!
This will take "work" and obedience and faith and a moment by moment CHOICE on my part, especially since I have a bent towards worrying, fretting and wanting things my way!
Not living
in fear
of what
might
happen,
but living
by faith
in what
could
happen!
"Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is."
Jeremiah 17:7
JESUS
IS
WITH ME
SO
I CLAIM
THE VICTORY
OVER
AND
OVER
AGAIN!
