There’s A Verse For That!

Today I'm reaching way back into the archives for this post. In fact I had to go as far back as August 21, 2015 to find this one! This is the very first post I ever wrote, and at the time I had no idea that it would ever end up on a website! It was just something I wrote in my personal journal, BUT GOD had other plans!

This post first appeared on Shelly Hendrick's website http://reneweddaily.com.

Click on the link above to be taken to Shelly's website, or I should say to her teenage daughter's website. Shelly has handed the website over to her daughter, Carissa, and she is doing a FANTASTIC job of writing! Please check it out! I guarantee that you won't be disappointed!

I came to know Shelly in 2013, not only through her website, but also because we deal with the very same chronic illness.

I shared with Shelly what I had written in my journal just to get her feed back, and the next thing I knew she was featuring me as a guest writer on her website every Wednesday right up until the Lord opened the door for this website to go live on November 25, 2015!!

Praising God

to be

able

to share

my

very first

written post

with all

of you

today!

So here we go!

"I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word."
Psalm 119:16

Due to my chronic illness my husband and I don't make it to our church services as often as we would like; however, we are blessed that our church live streams every service! So even when we can't actually be IN church we can still watch the services and feel like we are worshiping the Lord right along with our church family.

Well this past Sunday evening, after we finished watching our church service I was channel surfing and I "just happened" (it was NOT a coincidence) to land on a channel that was featuring one of my favorite preachers.

As soon as he began speaking, I immediately began scribbling down notes as fast as I could, but then he said something about the devil that caught me off guard.

Now-a-days anything to do with the devil, demons, satan, etc. makes me "put up my shield" so to speak. Oh, don't get me wrong, I definitely believe in a real live devil and demons.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
Ephesians 6:12

I'm extremely thankful I didn't turn the channel or tune him out because the next thing he did was make an acrostic out of the letters D - I - S

D emon

I nspired

uggestions

So now I'm hanging in the balance between having my curiosity peaked and/or ready to ditch the show completely! Probably like many of you are feeling right now about this post!

But then he went on to say,

"You know words such as

DIScouragement

DISappointment

DIScontentment!"

WOW! It was really beginning to make perfect sense to me because these words ARE TOTALLY NOT of the Lord.

The next day I decided to "study it out" further, so I Googled "words that begin with DIS!" I was amazed at the list that popped up! Some of the words would not qualify to be placed under the category of "Demon Inspired Suggestions", but many of them are.

Such as...

DISapproval

DISheartened

DISmay

DISsatisfaction

DISunity

DIStraught

DISgusted

DISbelief

DISillusionment

As I was writing out this list, I began to become quite overwhelmed, UNTIL I remembered that for every Demon Inspired Suggestion, there is a more powerful and greater TRUTH found in God's Word.

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
Hebrews 4:12

When I'm feeling DISheartened, I can be reminded of THE HOPE which I have in the Lord.

"The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him."
Lamentations 3:24

"Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God."
Psalm 42:11

I can easily remove DIScontentment and DISsatisfaction and replace them with these TRUTHS

"Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."
Hebrews 13:5

"My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever."
Psalm 73:26

When I feel DISpleased with the way I look or feel due to the effects of living with a chronic illness, I can claim the following TRUTHS

"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well."
Psalm 139:14

"For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day."
II Corinthians 4:16

When I am in the trap of DISillusionment as I look around at others and think,
"I'm sick and can't be in church like I want to be. I'm sick and can't go out on a shopping day with the girls. I'm sick and can't always have dinner ready for Brian when he gets home from a long hard day at work."

I need to remember and apply these TRUTHS

"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."
Colossians 3:17

"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God."
I Corinthians 10:31

When my chronic illness symptoms are flaring big time and I begin to fall into DISbelief and begin questioning if God really does care about what I'm going through, I can open my Bible and read ALOUD

"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
I Peter 5:7

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
Isaiah 41:10

The

bottom line

For EVERY Demon Inspired Suggestion (D - I - S) there is a GREATER EVEN MORE POWERFUL TRUTH FOUND IN GOD'S WORD

The B - I - B - L - E

"Heavenly Father, thank You so very much for Your Word. It's powerful. It's truth. It's Your love letter to us. Your Word overcomes all that the adversary attempts to throw our way, and I praise You and thank You for that! Lord, may we always keep our hearts and minds focused solely upon You and Your Word.
In Jesus' Holy and Precious Name, Amen."

I WILL

STAND ON

EVERY

PROMISE

OF

YOUR WORD
