I started writing this particular post, got to a certain point and decided instead to shelf it and go in a completely different direction, BUT, once again, God had other plans! He brought me right back to this one!
Actually I was trying to avoid this one because it's "me written in words!" It's one of those heart bearing posts which I don't always like sharing, but know they are necessary.
Praying the Lord will use it to help someone else who may be struggling with the same issues.
So give me lots of grace as I share my heart!
I'm sure most of you are familiar with the song, "Fear Is A Liar", written by Zach Williams.
The lyrics are spot on,
"Fear, he is a liar
He will take your breath
Stop you in your steps
Fear he is a liar
He will rob your rest
Steal your happiness
Cast your fear in the fire
'Cause fear he is a liar."
However, LOOOOOONG before that song was written, there were some godly men inspired by the Holy Spirit of the Lord who also wrote about fear and, WOW, am I ever thankful they did!
I openly and honestly admit that over the past several weeks I have been living in much fear, and I'm not happy about writing that to all of you.
My chronic illness appears to have changed somewhat, has worsened at times and doesn't let up much at all, which all adds up to my fear increasing.
- Fear of the unknown
There has always been an aura of the unknown surrounding my illness. The doctor's diagnosis is about 98% correct. There are several other illnesses which were never completely ruled out, so it still remains a bit of a mystery.
As I wrote that sentence I could sense the Lord saying,
"Barb, have I not taken great care of you up until now? So if it does end up being something different, will I be unable to handle that just as well?"
"True, Lord. So very true!"
- Fear of what's coming next
- The next test
- The next new doctor
- The next limitation
"Barb!"
"Yes, Lord!"
"Over the past sixteen years have I not provided you with MY comfort and care through multiple spinal taps, many MRIs, numerous CT scans, doctor visits galore, several ER visits, a few hospital stays, and have I not provided ways for you to continue to be mobile and get around despite limitations?"
Spoken to me in the most caring and loving voice ever!
"Ummm, yes, Lord, You most certainly have and I am so incredibly thankful."
- Fear of the symptoms
When my world suddenly begins to spin upside down and inside out, it can be quite terrifying. When tears are streaming down my face due to my head pounding so badly, thinking I just can't take any more.
"Barb, my dear child, I know when the vertigo hits, it can be debilitating, and, Barb, I know the other symptoms are so very hard to deal with and My heart aches for you. But please try to remember that I've always been right there with you, protected you from harm and I have promised I will always be with you. I will NEVER forsake you!"
I think
you're
getting
my point!
For every personal fear I have, the Lord has a very personal answer for me! And that's just conversing back and forth with the Lord in prayer, it's not even beginning to incorporate the TRUTHS from God's Word!
David spent much of his life running from His enemies. Never knowing if today would be the day he would be killed. However, he often wrote in the Psalms, "I will not fear!" How could he say such a thing?
Notice that David DOES acknowledge that he is afraid, BUT he DOES NOT linger there.
He QUICKLY acknowledges that his trust is in God.
"What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee."
Psalm 56:3
David is basically saying,
"I am afraid at this moment, but I know where to turn. I place my fears, as well as my trust, in the Lord."
David put his trust and PRAISE not just in God, but in God's Word. In the Lord's precious promises.
"In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me."
Psalm 56:4
"In God will I praise his word: in the Lord will I praise his word."
Psalm 56:10
This is David basically saying,
"When I'm afraid, Lord, I will cling to Your Word, instead of dwelling on the terrifying mountains in front of me. Suddenly, Lord, as I'm focusing upon Your Word, and praising You, the threats against me no longer seem threatening because they’re being drowned out by a much bolder and more mightier voice!"
If you struggle with fear, let's purpose together to make it a matter of prayer. Even if we must pray about it one hundred times a day, because one hundred times a day, the Lord WILL hear us and WILL answer with His grace, mercy and strength!
Trading our fear for trust in the Lord!
Trading our fear to praise Him!
Trading our fear to hear more clearly the bold voice of our mighty Saviour speaking truth into our lives from His precious Word!
"I sought
the Lord,
and he
heard me,
and
delivered me
from all
my fears."
Psalm 34:4
