What’s In A Name?

"Wherefore God
also hath
highly exalted him,
and given him
a name
which is above
every name:
That at
the name
of Jesus
every knee
should bow,
of things
in heaven,
and things
in earth,
and things
under the earth;
And that
every tongue
should confess
that Jesus Christ
is Lord,
to the glory
of God
the Father."
Philippians 2:9-11

We are all known by our name.

My "official" name is Barbara Marie Pierce (that's my maiden name) Camp (that's my married name)

But I prefer, greatly prefer, to be called Barb not Barbara!

When my Mom was still living, she called me, "Barbie" or "her baby!"

To my husband,
I am, "Babie"
(and yes, that's
how he spells it!)
Or he calls me
"his bride",
Sugar, Sweetie, etc.!

When I was a little girl I remember my doctor calling me, "sweet potato!"

To some very special people I am called, "friend".

To my son, I am, "Mom"!

Up until my Dad passed away, he called me, "Honey".

To telemarketers I am known as, "Mrs. Camp", or they most likely only know me from my phone voice message since I have a tendency to ignore those calls!

To my sweet granddaughter,
I am, "Grammy"!

To one very special friend I am known as, "Bestie", and to another very sweet friend, I am, "Sparkle Barb"!

But of course the greatest and most important title I could ever have is "child of God", "Christian", "believer in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ", "having a personal relationship with The Saviour"!

Some people may have titles before or after their names which show an entitlement of authority or "esteem" such as, Dr., Pastor, CEO, Captain, RN, Ph.D., Professor, Lieutenant.

Your name may have gotten you 2,345 “friends” on facebook.
Or you may only have 84 “friends” on facebook.
Or you may not even be on facebook at all, but you have 3 or 4 REAL LIFE friends!

You may really like your name a lot.
Or you may be thinking to yourself, "what were my parents thinking when they named me??!!"

When your name is spoken in a crowd of people, it may turn heads (hopefully for good reasons!!)
Or when your name is spoken around a lot of people, they may not even flinch.

No matter what your name evokes in others, there is ONE NAME unlike ANY OTHER NAME!!

ONE NAME

OH, WHAT THAT
ONE NAME
MEANS TO ME!!

You may be thinking, Barb, what IS this name you are referring to??

The NAME ABOVE
ALL OTHER NAMES!!

JESUS

There have been so many times when I have been struggling with my health issues and all I can do is say, "Jesus I need You".  Or when I am sitting quietly before the Lord, thinking of how He has blessed me so abundantly over the years, and as the tears are streaming down my face, all I can manage to say is, "Thank You, Jesus!"

“Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
There's just something
about that name
Master, Savior, Jesus
Like the fragrance
after the rain

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
Let all heaven
and earth proclaim

Kings and kingdoms
shall all
pass away

But there's something
about that name.”
Lyrics by Bill and Gloria Gaither

Jesus was born to save us from our sins
"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."
Matthew 1:21

Jesus gives us comfort
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus gives us peace
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.  In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33

Jesus gives us strength
"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness."
II Corinthians 12:9

Jesus gives us joy
"Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:"
I Peter 1:8

Jesus is the giver of abundant life
"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

John 10:10

Jesus calls us His friends
"Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you."
John 15:15

Jesus demonstrated His AMAZING love for us
"But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 5:8

Jesus is Wonderful, our Counsellor, our mighty God, our Everlasting Father, our Prince of Peace
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 9:6

Jesus is our victory
"O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?  The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
I Corinthians 15:55-57

Jesus is our salvation
"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
Acts 4:12

Jesus is the Creator of everything
"For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist."
Colossians 1:16-17

Jesus is our soon-coming KING
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."
I Thessalonians 4:16-17

And the list could go on and on and on!

"Father, words fail me in thanking You for sending to us Your precious Son, Jesus!  To those who have a personal relationship with Him, He is our "everything"!  There truly IS something about the name of Jesus!  Oh, Father, I pray for those who don't yet know Jesus as their Saviour.  I pray that TODAY would be the day that they would realize that trusting Jesus as their Saviour is so very simple and SO very important. May they realize that it's just a matter of truly believing that Jesus died, was buried and rose again to forgive them of their sins.  May they call upon that WONDERFUL name of Jesus to be their Saviour.  May they come to know the truth of Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Father, I pray these things in the name which is above all other names, that AMAZING name of Jesus.
Amen and AMEN."

As the song says, " I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last."
Revelation 22:13

Dear Barb, The Name above all names - the precious Name of Jesus - is a lifeline when life is hard - most of us have no doubt had times when that's all we had the strength to to. And He hears our cry in those times. A wonderful selection of scriptures, dear friend - ones we all need to hang on to. Much love, and a big hug stretching across the seas.
