Our Adopted Daughter!

"What doth
it profit
my brethren,
though a man say
he hath faith,
and have
not works?
can faith
save him?
If a brother
or sister
be naked,
and destitute
of daily food,
And one
of you
say unto them,
Depart in peace,
be ye warmed
and filled;
notwithstanding
ye give
them not
those things
which are
needful
to the body;
what doth
it profit?
Even so faith,
if it hath
not works,
is dead,
being alone."
James 2:14-17

Brian and I are incredibly blessed of the Lord to have several adopted daughters in our lives!  Oh, they are not our "officially" adopted daughters, but as far as our hearts are concerned, they most definitely are!

Today I have the privilege of introducing you to one of our very beautiful "adopted" daughters!

Please meet Crissey Tait!

Crissey came into our lives back in 2007 when I was in need of someone to clean my house!  We knew “of” Crissey, but we really didn't “know” her.

To this day, she and I still talk of that very first day when she showed up to clean our house!!  Oh what a day that was!  It was a very quiet and uncomfortable day for both of us, but it didn't stay that way for very long!!

That day was the beginning of an AMAZING, ONE-OF-A-KIND, HARD TO PUT INTO WORDS friendship, "mother-daughter kind of relationship" that is still going strong to this day!

Some days after school when Crissey would show up at our house to clean, I could tell she had a rough day or I had a hard day with my symptoms, and I would say to her, "let's just ditch the cleaning for today and talk!", and talk we did!  We spent HOURS at a time just talking. Sharing our hearts with one another.  Laughing at times until we couldn't breath!

Over the years, we cried together.  We laughed together.  We prayed together.  When one of us hurt, the other one hurt.  When one of us was joyful, the other one was joyful.

Crissey was, and continues to be, one of the daughters whom Brian and I never had!

And our sweet granddaughter, Emma, even knows her, although when she first met her, she called her, "Kissey"!!  PRECIOUS!!  Kissey is most definitely a part of our family!

I have watched Crissey, over the years, grow into a stunningly beautiful young woman on the outside, and most importantly, on the inside.  She is a vibrant, energetic, hard-working, enthusiastic twenty-three year old (soon to be a twenty-four year old in October!) who loves her Saviour and loves others

Crissey graduated in May of 2015 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Promotion with a Clinical Concentration.  She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), which means that she is certified in planning, implementing and evaluating programs, and also able to do research, as well as being involved in health resources.  She is continuing to take grad classes to earn her Master of Public Health Degree with a Global Health Concentration.

She began working at her current job at OrthoVirginia on January 4, 2016.  She is a Medical Scribe for the orthopedic surgeons.

I told you she is “a go-getter!!”

There is a very special reason I am featuring Crissey on my site today, besides sharing with you how wonderful she is and what a fantastic "adopted" daughter she is to us!

I will let Crissey
speak for herself!

"My name is Crissey Tait.  I am a Certified Health Education Specialist and Master of Public Health Candidate with a concentration in Global Health.  My goal for many years has been to improve the health of those in third world countries.  I now have that opportunity!

I am raising funds to travel to Rwanda with the attempt to improve their overall quality of health. Alongside my medical team, I will be teaching proper feminine hygiene and performing basic medical exams for the villages.  This will include passing out Wings kits provided by Gleaning for the World, women health seminars, and assessing the nutritional status of children.  We will also be teaching the men how to build hand wash stations using supplies found in-country.  My team and I will be working in the villages of Butare and Muzane.  Both the Hutu and Tutsi live in these villages, which were on both sides of the conflict that led to the slaughter of many Tutsi by the Hutu.  During the genocide, 70% of the Tutsi and 20% of the Rwandan population was killed. These villages continue to feel the effects of this tragedy and are in need of health care.

The funds will be used for the following:

  • My (Crissey's) plane ticket and in-country living costs
  • Materials for our seminars that will address women’s health
  • To aid our research into meeting the needs of these two Rwandan villages

The departure date for this trip is July 20th, so the funds are needed no later than July 4th.  The trip will last through August 2nd, giving my team and I two weeks to impact these village communities.

Support for this endeavor can be provided two ways:

  • Prayer.  I want to surround this trip in prayer as we minister into the lives of the women in these villages.
  • Financial Support.  Your contribution could make all the difference for a man, woman, or child who has spent her life in poverty. You can donate on the gofundme page or directly donate to me.

Thank you for partnering with me to contribute to the well-being of those who have faced unthinkable tragedies. Together, we can begin to aid the healing of the Rwandan people and create a brighter, healthier future."

So that’s Crissey’s “story”!  Brian and I couldn’t be more proud of our "adopted daughter".  She continues to amaze us!

Crissey understands that it’s extremely difficult to tell someone about the Lord and their need for a personal relationship with Jesus if they are literally starving to death and sees no hope for tomorrow because they can’t even see where their next meal is coming from or if it's coming at all.  But she also knows that once she gains their trust and helps them with their health and physical needs, that the door will swing WIDE OPEN for her to present the Gospel!

Brian and I would ask that you would please prayerfully consider helping Crissey in this once-in-a lifetime endeavor.  Who knows, you could not only be helping to change someone’s life physically, but also spiritually.

You can donate through her gofundme page or you can contact me at barb@castingyourcare.org and I will put you in direct contact with Crissey.

Crissey choose this song and I believe that it's a perfect choice to honor all those living in Rwanda.

"Father, as Crissey teaches the people living in Rwanda the basics of good health, will You please also give her the opportunity to share with these precious people that they can come to Your Son, Jesus Christ, and receive Him as their personal Saviour just as they are.  And may she be able to convey to them that Earth has NO sorrow that Heaven can't heal!  Father, please provide the funds that are necessary for Crissey to take this once-in-a-lifetime trip that will bring ALL honor and glory unto Your name.
In Jesus' Holy Name, Amen"

Barb, I can see from the photos that Chrissy brings such warmth and love into your lives - and she will do the same to all those she comes into contact with in Rwanda. God gives us some beautiful gifts, doesn't He - and this beautiful girl is a gift from Him to you. I will be praying for her.
Love and hugs, dear friend - though you are many miles away, you are close to my heart, thoughts and prayers. Linda
