Somebody’s Praying For Me!

"For where
two or three
are gathered
together
in my name,
there am I
i
n the midst
of them."
Matthew 18:20

Have you ever had your name written on a list?

  • Being newly married and having your names on a waiting list to move into that “perfect” little apartment building
  • An attendance list of students when you were in the fifth grade
  • A sign in sheet for patients waiting to see the doctor
  • Your name on a sheet to work as a volunteer in your church's nursery
  • Being listed, along with others, who are waiting to board the next available stand by flight so you can head home after a long business trip
  • Preparing to get married and having you and your fiancé's name listed on several gift registries

What about having your name typed on your church's prayer list?

Recently I was looking over our church's prayer list, and as my eyes fell upon my name, I said to Brian, "Oh how I wish I could look at this just one time and NOT see my name listed on here or on any prayer list any where in the entire world!"

As soon as the words were out of my mouth, the Holy Spirit convicted me BIG time.

He NEEDED to

I'm glad He did

Of course the way it was intended was that I would be completely better physically so my name could be removed from the list.

Do you have any idea how many people struggle and hurt physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually every day, every night, ALL THE TIME?  They don't have the PRIVILEGE of having their names typed on a church prayer list?  Or the HONOR of friends who write their names in their own personal prayer journals?

That is EXACTLY why the Holy Spirit of the Lord convicted me so strongly when I made my statement.

I can’t even begin to fathom walking this journey of chronic illness without having MANY faithful prayer warriors walking arm-in-arm right along side of me.

Oh, yes, the Lord still hears when I pray for myself by myself!

But there’s unspeakable comfort in knowing others are lifting me up before The Throne of Grace.

"For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."
Hebrews 4:15-16

Of course it's not just the mere fact of having my name written down on a list or in a journal.  We all know that would be totally useless.

But I KNOW that it goes way beyond that point.

How do I REALLY know there are others praying for me?

Well, one way is that individuals tell me.

They may tell me face-to-face, or through a text message or by writing, "I'm praying for you!" on the inside of a card.

But I have even greater proof that people are REALLY praying for me.

I can literally FEEL the prayers!

Oh don't get me wrong, it isn't some kind of weird, magical, mystical thing!

Have you ever FELT the prayers of others?

Amazing, isn't it??

Below I’ve shared some of the ways in which I know people have prayed for me and how we can be praying for others who are struggling, not just from a chronic illness, but from any kind of trial or just from the burdens which come from day-to-day living.

Pray your friend will remain faithful to prayer and to reading The Word of God.  A lot of times during trials, reading God's Word and praying quickly get pushed to the back burner as our minds and thoughts are consumed with what is transpiring in our life.  Pray earnestly that your friend will listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit of God and will slow down, STOP, and take the time to read or listen to Scripture and talk to The One Who truly understands.

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
Psalm 119:105

If the situation warrants, pray not only for your friend, but also for your friend's spouse, as well as for your friend's extended family members.

My husband is just as much a part of this chronic illness as I am.

Remember to pray for your friend to rely on the strength of the Lord especially on the really "rough" days when all physical, emotional, mental and spiritual strength is completely zapped from their body even before their feet hit the floor!

"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31

Pray that your friend will keep trusting and praying, no matter the circumstances, and find comfort and strength in His UNENDING peace.

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7

Pray for your friend to stay focused upon Jesus and praising Him for all the good He is accomplishing during this season of their life, especially when the loneliness, physical pain and "the unknown" are threatening to overshadow their faith.

And the list could go on and on!

My heart truly aches for those who may be suffering alone.

Without people to lean on.

Without prayer warriors to "stand in the gap" for them.

Oh, YES, the greatest news for all of us who know Jesus as our personal Saviour is we are NEVER alone and He is the greatest prayer warrior we could ever have!

But there's just something special about KNOWING and FEELING the prayers of others on our behalf as we travel this journey of life.

Encouraging

Comforting

Extraordinary

Strengthening

Sacred

If you find yourself struggling and hurting, and you don’t have your name on a prayer list or in someone’s prayer journal, please accept this as your personal invitation to have someone praying right along side of you.

On the main menu, you can send me your prayer requests by simply tapping on the “Prayer Requests” icon or email me at barb@castingyourcare.org.

I would be honored and count it a blessed JOY to join you “arm-in-arm” and walk with you through the power of prayer!

"Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
Jeremiah 33:3

I pray the song
will be a blessing.

"Somebody's prayin',
I can feel it

Somebody's prayin'
for me

Mighty hands
are guiding me

to protect me
from what
I can't see

Lord I believe,
Lord I believe
Somebody's prayin'
for me."

Very encouraged by this sis. Thanks for reminding me that intercessory prayer is essential and a blessing. May I re-bloog this over at Christianity Every Day? Typically I introduce the writer, include an excerpt and link back to the original article on your site.

Yes, Barb, prayer can sure be felt. A few years ago, I asked for specific prayer for a medical situation from various people around the globe - wow, those prayers felt like a "blanket" all around me for the entire time needed! Prayer is amazing - to pray and to be prayed for. There is nothing more powerful or effective than the power of prayer! The words you have written have touched hearts- and will continue to as they are read by others. Love the suggestions of what to pray. Dear friend, it is a privilege to stand alongside you in prayer - as I know you do for me too. Love and hugs across the ocean.

Oh my treasured friend, I KNEW that you would totally understand when I wrote about "feeling" prayer!! It is beyond words!! Prayer is SO very powerful. Just to know that we are talking to the Creator of the entire universe ... WOW!! And to know that nothing is too great or too small to talk with Him about!! What a privilege! Thank you for standing with me in prayer as I do for you and your family!! Love you and greatly appreciate you my sweet friend across the ocean!!

Barb, Thank you for allowing guest Hannah to write and challenge teens and adults as well. It was very encouraging and refreshing. She and my Cami have a lot in common. Maybe they should meet sometime. Cami is planning on WCBC also.
The song at the end sums it all up simply, Give Me Jesus. Love you.

Felicia, it was my joy to turn over the website to Hannah for the day. And as I look at the stats, I KNOW that I will definitely be using her as a guest writer in the very near future!! I had no idea that your Cami was planning on going to WCBC. That is an excellent college. We'll have to see if we can connect the two of them somehow??? Yes, just Give Me Jesus!! Love you, too, my dear friend!!
